UIL Literary Criticism practice tests

Practice Literary Criticism on 43 released tests and 2,795 questions — Invitational A and B, District, Region and State, 2017-18 through 2025-26 — plus a 2026-27 practice exam on the new reading list.

The contest

  • Part 1 (items 1–30): literary terms and literary history, 1 point each
  • Part 2 (items 31–50): the year's UIL Reading List, 2 points each
  • Part 3 (items 51–65): poems printed on the test, 2 points each
  • 100 points, no deduction for a wrong answer, 90 minutes; a tie-breaking essay is judged separately

In Academic Ace

  • Each poem shown as it appears on the test page, beside the questions about it
  • Scored by part, with each test's essay prompt and its poem to practice with
  • Review shows the page of A Handbook to Literature or the reading-list work that UIL's key cites
  • A 2026-27 mock exam on the new reading list, written by us and clearly labeled as a mock exam, not a UIL test
  • Where UIL's printed answer key is plainly wrong or contradicts itself, the app grades the right answer and explains why

2019-20 Region is left out: its released packet has no answer key.
